General Guidelines for Preparing a Source
Recording
The following are accepted source formats:
Red Book CDR (Audio CDR)
Data CDR
(Pro Tools, etc…)
Masterlink CD24 (16, 20,24 bit @ 44.1, 48, 88.2
or 96 kHz)
1/2" Analog Tape @ 15 or 30 ips
DAT (16 bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz)
Provide clearly marked and labeled source media:
Project Title, Band Name, Record Label info including catalog/scribe info
(for vinyl)
Include song title, song length, track sequence
and total running time info. For vinyl mastering, please note where you
would like the side break.
Listen to the source before sending and make
sure there are no issues. (i.e. glitches, distortion, skips, etc…)
Provide any instructions or information that you
would like the mastering engineer to know about. Please note anything out
of the ordinary about the source recording that is intentional but may be
mistaken for a problem. For example, intentional “out of the ordinary”
effects such as distortion, skipping, clipping, etc…
Provide instructions on “trimming” heads/tails
of the songs. Everything will be left in (for example: stick clicks, room
noise, talking, etc…) unless otherwise instructed.
Please burn at the slowest speed using high
quality CD media. High speed copying can cause audio errors and dropouts.
Make sure sessions are “Disk at Once” closed
sessions.
NO MP3’S!!!
Analog Tape
We accept 1/2" or 1/4" two-track tape
at either 15 or 30 IPS. We do not currently accept analog tape with noise
reduction.
IMPORTANT!!! Alignment tones must be included on
your source tape: 30 sec @1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 Hz, 50 Hz. We will not be able to properly align
our machine without these tones.
Start the audio 1:00 into the tape to prevent
errors.
Each song must have its own track index.
Please clearly mark tape with sample rate info
(44.1 or 48khz) No mixing of sample rates on the same tape.
